Los Angeles Angels have confirmed that pitcher Tyler Skaggs has died, aged 27.
Their match against Texas Rangers due to take place in the early hours of Tuesday morning (BST) has been cancelled.
Police confirmed they were called to the Angels’ team hotel where Skaggs was found unresponsive in his room and pronounced dead at the scene.
Southlake Police Department said: “This afternoon at 2:18 p.m. the Southlake PD responded to a call of an unconscious male in a room in the Hilton Hotel.
“Officers arrived and found the male unresponsive and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“At this time no foul play is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing.”
In a statement, the Angels said: “It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas.
“Tyler was, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”
The Rangers also released a statement, saying: “Tonight’s scheduled game between the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington has been postponed due to the tragic passing of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs.
