The United States women’s football team has added more capacity to their World Cup stars after Nike, the sportswear firm, said the team’s shirt had made record sales on its website.
“The United States women’s shirt is now the highest selling football shirt for men and women in one season on the Nike website,” said Nike President Mark Parker and CEO.
The jersey is sold for $ 90 at the Nike site. The United States play against England in the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup in Lyon on Tuesday.
Barker said two-thirds of the teams at the start of the tournament wore Nike shirts.
The US women’s team is receiving increasing attention from celebrities and politicians in the United States and abroad.
US Open champion Megan Rabino faced public criticism from Republican President Donald Trump before the quarter-final against France, saying she would not attend a traditional visit to the White House if her team won the World Cup.

The 2019 Women’s World Cup is the eighth edition of the Women’s World Cup, the four-year international football tournament, in which women’s national teams of FIFA’s international associations compete between June 7 and July 7, 2019.
In March 2015, France won the right to host the event; the first time the country hosted the tournament, and the third time by a European country. Games are played in nine cities across France. The United States enters the competition as a defending champion. It is also the first women’s World Cup to use a video-assisted referee system.
